Chain of Souls is here to help pass the time with a great puzzle game

October 21, 2014

Puzzle games, we have a habit of getting hooked on addicting games like them right? I thought the world was going to end when games like Angry Birds and Bejeweled were launched, and then Konami releases a new game that is based on both puzzle solving, and a card based attack system.

Chain of Souls is the name of the game, and how you play is pretty simple, and yet entertaining. Here is the deal, you try to get three or more runes of the same color to form a chain and attack their opponent.

Forming three or more chains grants you a card. With it you can do a number of things, like reduce the amount of damage you take, or it can increase the amount of damage delt to an opponent. The cards you collect can also work in unison with other cards in your deck, thereby granting you even more power than before.

Sounds a bit like Yu-Gi-Oh! is being thrown into the mix, but then again both titles are Konami games. Chain of Souls is a "Free to Play" title for your iOS device, and can be downloaded right now on the iTunes store. Use the link below to get your free copy if you like. CHAIN OF SOULS PLAYS ITS CARDS

KONAMI unveils chain-based iOS puzzler

Today sees the release of a new iOS-based puzzle title, called Chain of Souls from Konami Digital Entertainment B.V.

Chain of Souls is a clever and addictive puzzle game wherein users must link three or more same-coloured runes against a number of CPU-controlled opponents. These opponents take the form of humans, Gods or Demons, and must be defeated by completely emptying their HP bars.

The larger the chain of linked runes, the more damage the player can inflict on their opponent, and Chain of Souls also incorporates a unique card-based element, as players unleash attacks of three or more chains to activate one of many 'skill' cards the game offers. These are activated when summoning allies within the game and when runes matching the colour of a Skill card are cleared.

Each card offers unique attributes and skills, dependent on its element. These include powerful attacks, the ability to weaken opponents, and element-specific moves. Each card can be upgraded several times to make it stronger. Thus, the player is charged with stringing together stunning offensive moves as same-coloured runes are linked, with each attack reducing the Hit Points of their opponent. The type of attack the player inflicts depends on the colour of runes linked, and enhanced by a well-played card supplement.

The game's Skill cards are themed around elemental powers and linked to their same-coloured runes. However, their use varies, with some less potent against opposite elements – water and fire, for instance. The cards are also linked to factions and stars, which determine the power of the card and its rarity within the game. The higher the number of stars on the card, the rarer – and more powerful – it is. Players begin with 5 cards, before entering battle. Players are limited by an Equip Cost structure, however, and must ensure their deck falls within these parameters.
