Female characters appearing erotic or sexy in games

October 27, 2014

Erotic elements and sexism in video games. It's an issue and controversy that's been going on for years now. It's also one of the things that required the use of a rating system (M for Mature), especially for games like Grand Theft Auto. Well, Metal Gear Solid 5: The Phantom Pain is in the spotlight now, ever since Hideo Kojima stated that he wanted a rather sexy element implemented into his new game.

The sniper Quite character being one of them. As you can see in the photo below released by Konami, once the matter got out there, it has some people concerned that Kojima might be objectifying women. Kojima fired back, making some statements to defend his position on it.

“Maybe the phrase ‘erotic’ wasn’t really correct with what I was trying to say,”

"What I’m really trying to do is create unique characters. One is, of course, Quiet, she’s a really unique character. We wanted to add that sexiness. It wasn’t very erotic, but, more of the sexy.”

Kojima also made some statements on Twitter about the matter.

I know there's people concerning about "Quiet" but don't worry. I created her character as an antithesis to the women characters (cont)
