OK, you've played all Silent Hill games by now, and by now your in anticipation for the next Silent Hill to come out. Well, that of course will be a while from now, as creations by Hideo Kojima and director Guillermo del Toro don't exactly grow on trees. At least not overnight. So what to do until then? Oh, I've got it! How about you play a new Silent Hill right now?
Seriously you ask? Well, yes......at least somewhat to be honest. This one happens to be a fan made game that's using the same Valve's Source Engine that was behind titles like Half Life 2, Team Fortress, and Portal. Sounds rather dated doesn't it? Well, I like to think it's the experience that counts.
But what kind of experience could an engine like that provide you for the famous survival horror game? Picture this if you will. No fighting, no combat of any kind for that matter, and well quite frankly, no monsters either. So what kind of fun is that supposed to be you ask? Well the author wants you to enjoy the experience another way, as you will have puzzles to solve, and items to collect in a world that has the same look and feel of the traditional Silent Hill exploration that you've come to know before.
Silent Hill: Alchemilla has one goal in mind from its creator. "So we have an ADVENTURE type game in [the] Silent Hill universe with NO MONSTERS and NO GUNS, MELEE. In our game you will not find inventory system or notes system—there are no people who could do that on Source engine (people start to hate it cause it's outdated). So just sit tight, take pen and notebook and play as hardcore gamer, make notes yourself, draw your maps yourself."
Make your own maps? Sounds like a winner to me, and perhaps this will tide you over until that long awaited official game lands in your living room next year,....hopefully. If this sounds like something you want to get in on, you can grab yourself a copy right now at the official site.
