Super Probotector: Alien Rebels is the European counterpart to Contra 3

October 24, 2014

Oh how the Super Nintendo days have come and gone, but that doesn't mean we can't relive them once again does it? Of course not, as yet another phoenix rises out of the ashes in the form of the classic Super Probotector: Alien Rebels, also known as Contra 3: The Alien Wars in the 60hz part of the world.

This was one of the early SNES titles that boasted the systems Mode 7 hardware scaling effects, and did it quite well. Not to mention how challenging the game was, taking me more than one try to get to the end with at least one or two men in reserve.

Now you can relive the experience once again, as Super Probotector has made its way on the Nintendo Wii-U eShop, with a listing fee of €7.99 / £5.49. Not a bad price to add this gem to your existing classic arsenal. SP had multiple names over the years.

In Japan, "Contra Spirits" is the name of the game there. As for the well known Konami code, don't count on it unless you get a chance to play the Japanese version, as it does have a 30 lives cheat code, along with unlimited continues regardless of the difficulty setting. Oh to be young and in love again.
