The history of mispronounced words in video games

June 8, 2015

One thing that history is taught us, is that its filled with mistakes. Those who fail to learn from history are doomed to repeat it. Even so with video games. All this time I've been mispronouncing certain words a certain way. Is Gradius one of them?, sure it is. Ryu from Street Fighter is another.

How about Ninja Gaiden? Have you been pronouncing that like you should? Perhaps not, and thankfully Game Trailers has put together a video that contains an arsenal of games you thought you were pronouncing the right way, but probably weren't. Ganbare Goemon was another tongue twister for me for a while. Go-E-Mon.

How about Suikoden? In the beginning I had the hardest time working with that name, until I took the time to look it up and see how it was uttered. For those of you who have had a hard time with that name, here is how it's spelled my friend. "Su-ee-koh-den".

Yeah, like that. Not Soy-koh-den. It's easy to do, I should know. The fellas on Suikosource helped out with that one. So take a few minutes and sit back for an earful courtesy of Game Trailers, and some of them just might surprise you a bit.
