Which came first, the Silent Hill chicken or the egg? Well if you've ever played Shattered Memories, then you may have never known it had a different identity before that particular name. Cold Heart was the original aim of Climax Studios, and while the original content never saw the light of day on your favorite game system, there are a few remains that still linger in the ruins of scrapped survival horror game ideas.
Thanks to a well known fan site called Silent Hill Memories, you can get a decent glimpse into what might have been with this title. While it did keep alive the icy theme in its wake, much of the game had changed during the development cycle, and the end product had lost much of what was originally planned for its release, combat included.
Underrated?, most definitely, but Shattered Memories was a great horror game to have in your collection. So for those of you who never played it let me make that recommendation right now to get yourself a copy. You have three formats to choose from, Playstation 2, Wii, and Playstation Portable (PSP) for those who want to take their gaming on the road.
The game is a re-imagination of the first game, and takes to the story of Harry Mason, a father looking for his lost daughter in the world of Silent Hill. Which this time around is set within the confines of a different universe.
The game is divided into two perspectives, one as a first person psychotherapy view, while the other is a rather "over the shoulder" view with Harry Mason as he wonders throughout the world of Silent Hill. Tom Hulett produced Shattered Memories, while the well known Akira Yamaoka performs the game music soundtrack. A long time favorite of the series.
