The U.S. National Video Game Team lives on through the Internet

February 1, 2015

Secret Video Game Tricks, Codes, and Strategies. That might ring a bell for you if you grew up during the 1980s and was knee deep in the world of 8-bit Nintendo games like I was. A time before the Internet was born, and you could just get whatever information or game FAQ and cheat codes for whatever title you wanted at the click of a mouse button.

Those days have come and gone, and technology just keeps trying to make things even more convenient and less time consuming. But that still doesn't mean that they are forgotten. No sir, not by a long shot.

The boys behind these videos were none other than Donn Nauert, Jim Allee, and a few other faces the U.S. National Video Game Team. The team was founded in 1983 by Walter Day, and the Twin Galaxies Intergalactic Scoreboard.

Besides being one of the few sources of information on cheat codes for games and strategies on how to defeat bosses and such, it also help spread awareness of the famous Konami code and a few Konami games such as Contra, Castlevania 2, Life Force, and Gradius.

After watching the videos for the first time, that's when I decided to scrape up as much money as I could and go straight to the game store looking for those titles on the shelf. Soon I had the whole ball of wax in my room, and a smile on my face to boot. So if you're in the mood for a blast from the past, take a seat and remember a time when games were true gold, and your parents kept yelling at you to go to sleep and turn that damn Nintendo off.
