This is what happens when Zelda 2 meets Vampire games

October 9, 2014

Classic games are a vanishing breed. They've been replaced by gigantic 3D open worlds, filled with eye popping visuals running on the latest new technology, graphic engine, and whatever. It's turned into such an epidemic that we are thankfully starting to see more and more people out there take matters into their own hands and do something about it.

Like a phoenix out of the ashes comes a game that deserves an honorable mention. It's called ShadowCrypt, and it takes the best of two well known games, Zelda II: The Adventure of Link, and Castlevania and mixes the two together to form an experience that is well worth the $9.99 modest price tag.

Fun games like this are hard to come by, and with ShadowCrypt by OneBitPunch making good use of the Game Maker Studio engine, 2D games are finally starting to not only make a come back of epic proportions, but are also in high demand once again. Who says you need to fork out $59.95 for one game to enjoy yourself.

You have everything you need right here. You can tell by the way it sounds and looks that it borrows the elements from Castlevania and Zelda II and blends them together in a well balanced way. The game play video below was posted just a couple of weeks ago, and lasts a lot longer than the official trailer. Over 11 minutes worth to give you a better insight as to just where your $9.99 will be going should you decide to add this to your classic game arsenal.

On a side note, ShadowCrypt has also been given a Steam greenlight, so expect to see it there if it hasn't landed there already. I personally recommend this to anyone who loves classic 2D games. Whether you grew up with them, or are just getting introduced to them in some form or another, you can't go wrong with this one. Take a look below and see what I mean.
